Biographie
Standing in the shadows of giants is a daunting task, especially when those giants are metal titans Pantera and Damageplan, as well as hard rock heroes Drowning Pool. The respect paid to those bands is well earned and their lineage bleeds down to a younger generation of bands built on volume, energy and soul. The torch needs to be passed in order to keep the fires burning. These flames now lay in the able and youthful hands of Dallas’s own Overscene. Unlike its metallic brethren, Overscene is built on melody first, followed by a bruising rhythm section, lock and stock guitars, all held together by vocals that come straight from the dead aim heart. Formed in 2004 by drummer Michael Glass, the band forged its foundation on white hot live gigs and the ability to switch from searing metal to melodic hard rock songs that aren’t afraid to embrace pop- all sharing the same goals of emotional outpouring and personal stories. The last few months have seen the band at it’s most stable and progressive. Now locked into a powerful five-piece rounded out by bassist Erin Denis, vocalist JR Munoz and guitarists Justin Hold and Aaron Korta, Overscene has laid claim to being the support band of choice for such national bands as Element Eighty and Twisted Method, as well as being famed KEGL DJ Robert Miguel’s “go to” band for his monthly metal blowouts. In 2004 saw Overscene garner rave reviews, Dallas Local Music Awards nominations for Best Singer, Best New Artist and the Dave Williams (Drowning Pool) Stage Award, a first for band together less than 2 years, and a swell of club bookings and tour offers. The bands that once influenced the individuals in Overscene now have become comrades, and with the grass-roots determination, Overscene entered 2008 with the engine firing on all cylinders. After taking four months to record at Gridlock Studios in Florida with producer Justin Thomas, the band will be releasing their first full length album ‘The Moment of Change‘ on April 4th. The band will then join their first national tour with Sevendust and Saliva on April 9th.
