XtortYa

XtortYa began in a small town north of Perth, Western Australia in 2003, All The members are very close friends and have been for many years. Darren, Simon, and Lee previously had been with other bands together, but a decision was made to reform with a new singer and bass player. With the addition of Aaron and Ian to the band, the formula fell into place. The common values of musical dedication and open-mindedness towards their style made them form as a tight, close knit unit. In 2006, after writing, gigging and developing their sound, XtortYa began working with multi Grammy award winning engineer Ken Lewis (NYC) known for his work with Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Usher and Beastie Boys to name a few. This has further developed XtortYa into a diverse and solid sound taking the main stage. Shortly after beginning work with Ken, XtortYa took away the AVPA (national video award) for ‘Eurotec’, a film of XtortYa’s live set at one of Perth’s largest under 18 events. Also the song ‘Boom Boom taking a finalist position in the ‘Music Video’ category. In 2007, XtortYa shot their debut music video for their first single ‘I Need You’ a full production by Ken Lewis and XtortYa. The clip taking a finalist award at the AVPA’s in the music video category. In October 2007, not long after filming ‘I Need You’, DJ Lee had caused severe injury due to a quad bike accident leaving him in a wheelchair. This was a devastating blow to XtortYa. The band had to then take time to help Lee to recover, forcing a postponing of their releases and placing a major hold on the bands career. 2008 saw XtortYa hit back at the scene hard, with their EP hitting iTunes and major digital retailers worldwide, ‘I Need You’ making the shortlist for the ASA (Australian Songwriting Association) songwriting contest, video rotation in the USA and CMJ inviting XtortYa to play for their music marathon showcase in October. XtortYa has a style of music that is both felt by listeners and makes everyone move. A hugely diverse range of songs have been written to accommodate every emotion and feeling within the band to communicate with their listeners. Writing songs with the mix of Hip Hop, Dance, R n B, and Rock to give different moods and vibes to their music. Known for their rocking stage performance at their shows, XtortYa pumps the crowd with their high energy performances and creating a great show for both eyes and ears. Their sound, style, performance and song writing have sparked excitement within the industry at all levels. With genres crossed and their live show pumping, XtortYa needs to be seen and heard to fully comprehend what they are capable of
